Today we started by checking our transcription homework.  The answers can be found here.
Next, we did our repetition exercises with the following sound file and script.
Make sure you have sent the "secret word" email!!!

Homework for next time:

1) Write a phonetic transcription of the sentences in bold type AND be prepared to say them aloud in class.

  • What about his wife?// Her name is Carol Clarke
  • She ended her e-mail by describing herself as // “the wife of a prisoner”.//
  • And he stole an awful lot of money without my knowledge.//
  • When did you first realize there was a problem?//
  • He stole money, he should NOT have taken money!//

2) Be prepared to read the following sentences aloud in class (you should check the pronunciation of every single word and decide where you should mark pauses):
White-collar criminals are usually well educated people.
They’ve been to good schools, they’re intelligent.
They just think that, somehow, they’ve risen above the law.
Mrs Clarke doesn’t think her husband is a crook.
She was relieved when she heard her husband would lose his job.
