Today, B day

Continued notes on Santo Domingo:
  • La forteleza Ozama (The Ozama fortress):  Oldest military fortress in the Americas.  Tribute tower, inside, was built in 1503.
  • La catedral Primada: This cathedral was built between 1514 and 1544, and it's one of the best examples of Spanish renaissance architecture.
  • El Alcazar de Colon: The most impressive building of the 'old town' was built for Diego Columbus, the son of Christopher Columbus.
  • El Faro a Colon: Built in the form of a cross, the Faro a Colon is a monument in honor of the famous explorer.  Measuring almost 229 yards in height, it now serves as a cultural center.
  • El locrio dominicano:  It's a stew of rice, meat, chicken or fish.  It's like Spanish paella.
