No late work will be accepted. No "make-up" exams will be given. On an urgent basis, you may consult the English department regarding "rattrapage."

I will post updates from our sessions every day. I may ask you to bring certain documents from the site to class. You may check your grades online by entering your ID number in the section titled "What's my grade?"
25% - Listening: You will be graded on your
ability to paraphrase and summarize an audio clip played at the beginning of
each class. You should keep these
summaries in a journal or other safe place; you may be called to present them
at random for multiple grades.
25 % - Presentations: multiple grades per semester, may
be replaced by debate

Preparation and presentation of your own topic within
specified guidelines. Should last
8 – 10 minutes. Must include at
least 2 discussion questions for your group. Must come from newspaper, magazine, online article, podcast,
or book in English.

Participation and contributions to discussions of all
presentations (active listening, posing and answering pertinent questions)
25% - Exam Grade 1: Book Report

Choose a book you like. Original may be in English or French, but report will be in
English.

Present: The title, the author, the characters, the
story, the main themes, the style, a quotation or short passage that represent
the style, a person who would benefit from reading this book and why, questions
for audience discussion

10 minutes maximum; will be presented to small

25% - Exam Grade 2: Personal Diary, Due: Week 10 _

The final 30 minutes of each class will be dedicated
to self-assessment and reflection in the form of a personal diary. The secret word for your class is cataclysm. Each entry should be around half a page
in length, and include:

Your overall impression of class that day
o
What you learned from the topic you presented

What you learned from topics that others presented
[information/grammar/vocabulary]
o
Areas of weakness and how you will address them
o
Your plan of preparation for next week’s class
